Oral Roberts Had a Heart Attack Before Hospitalization, Hoag Says

NEWPORT BEACH — Televangelist Oral Roberts was in stable condition Thursday, one day after suffering a heart attack and undergoing an emergency procedure to clear a clogged artery, hospital officials said.
Roberts, 74, founder and president of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla., was taken to Hoag Hospital early Wednesday after experiencing chest pains. Hospital officials confirmed Thursday that Roberts suffered a heart attack before a non-surgical procedure was used to increase blood flow to his heart.
Roberts was described as being alert, talking and eating, according to Dr. Subbarao Myla, his cardiologist. He is expected to remain hospitalized for about a week, officials said.
“Our family is very encouraged with my father’s improvement,” Roberts’ son, Richard Roberts, 43, said in a statement released by the hospital.
