Youth : OPINION : Malcolm X: a Hero for Today?

Junior, 16, Century High School, Santa Ana; Compiled by Erik Hamilton for The Times
Malcolm X wanted his people to be independent and judged not as a minority but equally in American society.
He believed that change must be fought for and that turning the other cheek was not a way to achieve change. He wanted people to have self-respect, dignity and think and question.
I am Asian, but Malcolm X doesn’t discriminate. He practiced what he preached and I admire him for that.
