The San Diego State basketball team, under rookie Coach Tony Fuller, begins its 1992-1993 schedule at 7:30 tonight with an exhibition against the Melbourne Tigers, a touring team from Australia, in Peterson Gym.
Melbourne, on a United States tour, played UCLA on Nov. 16 and lost, 92-80, in Pauley Pavilion. Andrew Gaze, who played on Seton Hall’s 1989 NCAA tournament runner-up team, is playing for Melbourne and had a game-high 29 points and seven assists against UCLA.
The Aztecs finished with a 2-26 record last season, the worst in school history. They return four starters and nine lettermen from that team.
They have one more exhibition scheduled, against Marathon Oil on Nov. 27, before opening the season Dec. 1 against the University of San Diego in the San Diego Sports Arena.
