A 43-year-old San Diego restaurant employee was listed in fair condition Sunday after being shot during a robbery.
Police said that Manuel Rodriguez was following two men from Figaro Italian restaurant in Hillcrest after the holdup when he was shot in the abdomen.
The robbery and shooting occurred about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when two men wearing disguises took cash from the cash register, then, after shooting Rodriguez, fled in a van parked in an alley. The brown van had a luggage rack on top, a cowboy motif on the side and no windows, witnesses told police.
Rodriguez was hospitalized at UC San Diego Medical Center.
