SEATTLE — An airplane loaded with mail crashed in the Cascade Mountains, killing the pilot and strewing more than a ton of letters and packages across a snowy mountainside, authorities said.
The twin-engine aircraft, owned by Corporate Air of Billings, Mont., crashed late Friday after leaving Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on a flight to Spokane.
Officials said the U.S. Postal Service, which had hired the plane, was trying to recover the 2,220 pounds of mail. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
