Glendale’s Figueras to Attend Oregon

Jaiya Figueras, an All-Pacific League and All-Southern Section Division II defensive back at Glendale High, said Thursday he plans to sign a letter of intent to play football at Oregon.
The NCAA weeklong signing period for football begins Feb. 3.
Figueras said he chose Oregon over Washington State because he liked the campus and Eugene, Ore., was less remote than Pullman, Wash.
“It will be easier to travel to and from home,” he said.
Figueras, who has already surpassed the NCAA minimum score for eligibility on his Scholastic Aptitude Test, also had scheduled a trip to USC.
At Glendale, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Figueras was used at linebacker, defensive back, tailback, wide receiver and punter. He intercepted four passes--three in one game. Figueras caught 32 passes for 386 yards and gained 77 yards in 21 carries.
Figueras, who expects to redshirt his first season, said he will play safety at Oregon.
