Check for Theft

With the world of travel made up of “take a number” and “get in line,” I want to publish news celebrating a hotel and the family who runs it. A few weeks ago, when I checked out of the famous Aggie Grey’s hotel in Apia, Western Samoa, I found that half the money in my wallet, which I had left in my unlocked room, was missing.
Upon my return home to Los Angeles I wrote the Grey family saying I had left the money in an unlocked room but that I wanted them to know exactly when, how and where. Alan Grey sent me a check for $300, the amount of my loss. His act was without any formal complaint or request from me and was based on my word alone. I will have the memory of that honorable and principled action with me as I go through the rest of the world of my travels.
