World IN BRIEF : COSTA RICA : Embassy Kidnapers Release 5 Hostages

A group of anti-Sandinista kidnapers released five hostages from the Nicaraguan Embassy in San Jose and agreed to resume talks to end the standoff. The kidnapers started with 25 hostages when they seized the embassy March 8 and have released a total of 14. The five men were freed minutes after Cardinal Miguel Obando y Bravo arrived from Managua, the Nicaraguan capital, to resume his effort at mediation.
