National Video Rentals : ‘Mohicans’ Vaults Into Top 5

“The Last of the Mohicans” cut a swath through the rental chart, surging from No. 36 to No. 5. Some retailers are reporting it as their No. 1 rental, adding that for an adventure, it’s unusually popular among female renters. The lure, of course, is heartthrob star Daniel Day-Lewis. This is somewhat similar to “Dancing With Wolves” attracting a sizable female audience because of Kevin Costner.
* Though it pulled in a puny $5 million at the box office, this “Of Mice and Men” remake is performing much better than expected in the rental market, jumping from No. 23 to No. 12. Some stores report it among their Top 10 rentals, indicating it may linger in the Billboard Top 20 for a few weeks.
