Mao Jacket Out of Style--Even in China

BEIJING — The high-collared “Mao jacket,” once China’s last word in politically correct fashion, is now selling so poorly that factories are ceasing production and shops are yanking them off the shelves.
Beijing’s Meidu Garment Factory--chosen by the Ministry of Light Industry as a leader in quality Mao jackets--has tens of thousands of the coats gathering dust in warehouses, deputy manager Qi Dexin told the official China Daily on Sunday.
