Ferguson Misdirects Blame for Education Woes

* Assemblyman Gil Ferguson indicates that “. . . the first charter schools in California are making public school history, breaking free of a 6,000-page Education Code to flee the bureaucratic policies that have stifled learning.”
I agree that often bureaucratic policies do, in fact, hamper learning and get in the way and burden the teacher with unnecessary, time-consuming responsibilities other than direct instruction of the students.
But I would remind the assemblyman that the laws contained in the Education Code are written by the members of the state Legislature, not the teachers involved in educating our youth. Perhaps it would be good for the legislators to undo many of the bureaucratic policies that encumber the education system and then we teachers could get on with the learning process.
