Head-On Crash in La Habra Kills Passenger

LA HABRA — A speeding car veered into oncoming traffic Sunday on West Lambert Road, crashing head-on into another car and killing a passenger, police said.
The victim, Ernesto Avalos, 59, of Cerritos, was in the back seat of a car heading east when the speeding driver hit it at 2 p.m.
“Witnesses said a car traveling west began to pass another car by going into the center divider at about 65 m.p.h.,” Sgt. Vernon Mangles said. “For an unknown reason, the driver swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with the other car.”
The driver, 29-year-old Carlos Mora Moreno of Riverside, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. He is being held at La Habra city jail on $25,000 bail.
