Hueneme Ends 22-Game Skein, Thwarts Channel Islands, 13-12

PORT HUENEME — Hueneme High stopped a two-point conversion on the final play of the game to end a 22-game losing streak that spanned three seasons with a 13-12 victory over Channel Islands in a nonleague game Friday night at Hueneme.
Channel Islands running back Allen Espiritu ran the ball in from the one-yard line with no time remaining as the Raiders (0-2) closed the deficit to one point. On the two-point conversion try, quarterback Mookie Boyd ran a sweep, but was swarmed by the Viking front line.
Hueneme running back James Jenkins rushed for 119 yards in 13 carries and scored on a 16-yard run in the first quarter. Quarterback George Jones carried the ball 15 times for 77 yards.
Kicker John Ralston booted two field goals, including a 34-yarder with nine seconds left in the first half to give Hueneme (1-1) a 10-6 lead. In the third quarter, Ralston added a 38-yard kick.
