Firefighters Gaining on Los Padres Blaze

SANTA YNEZ — High humidity frustrated firefighters’ efforts to set backfires to starve a 42,300-acre wildfire Wednesday, but officials expected containment by Friday night.
The blaze in Los Padres National Forest is 90% contained, U.S. Forest Service spokesman Gerry Little said.
Full control is expected by Oct. 15, he said.
“We have a tractor line around it, but we want to take our time and make sure it’s secure,” he said.
Earlier, there were predictions of containment Tuesday night and control by Friday.
No structures have been damaged in the fire, which was set Sept. 25 by a hunter’s cigarette.
