Despite the efforts of a search and rescue team and daily flyovers by a sheriff’s helicopter, authorities have found no sign of a scuba diver who was last seen Oct. 2 near the breakwater of the Ventura Harbor.
Edward Lee Skidmore, 41, of Van Nuys disappeared about 5:30 p.m. while scuba diving with two friends in 30-foot-deep water about 100 yards from the north side of the breakwater.
Members of a volunteer search and rescue team worked the weekend that Skidmore was reported missing.
Since then, helicopter pilots for the Sheriff’s Department have continued to scan the coastline around Ventura Harbor. “We’re doing an aerial reconnaissance daily, hoping to locate the victim,” said pilot Chris Spangenberg.
