Rules? Phillie Manager Jim Fregosi said he has only one: no earrings.
“The general manager (Lee Thomas) doesn’t like them,” Fregosi said. “As soon as he told me, I told my wife she couldn’t wear them.”
On the National League manager of the year award, Sporting News variety, going to Bobby Cox of the Braves, Fregosi said: “I voted for him. He’s a great guy, and he did a great job bringing that team back (from a 10-game deficit).”
Fregosi is expected to receive his share of honors as well, but he said: “All those days of hitting game-winning home runs and receiving personal accolades are over for me. As a player, you’re more into yourself. But, as a manager, I’m at a stage where I get my kicks looking into people’s faces. When they’re happy and successful, that’s where I get my satisfaction now. That’s where I’m at now.”
