COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : USC : Robinson Cuts Walters Slack

Coach John Robinson thinks he may have overdone it with his freshman tailback, Shawn Walters. Robinson spent much of training camp and the first half of the season “encouraging” Walters to run through tacklers instead of around them.

“Now, he’s at the point where he’d run through a tree out there if he saw one,” Robinson said.

“So I had to go up to him and say: ‘Look, if it’s just one guy standing there, it’s OK if you want to run around him.’ ”
