Westcorp: The Irvine financial-services holding company reported a third-quarter profit of $3.2 million, or 15 cents a share, compared to earnings of $287,000, or 1 cent a share, for the same period last year. The company attributed the increase to an improvement in asset quality as well as record loan volumes. Nine-month profit declined 9% to $9.4 million, or 49 cents a share, from $10.3 million, or 58 cents a share.
