Foodmaker Inc. Funds Trust for E. Coli Victims: The San Diego-based firm has agreed to establish a $450,000 trust fund to finance medical monitoring and care for victims of food poisoning at its Jack in the Box restaurants earlier this year. The fund, which will finance periodic medical examinations and any necessary treatment, was negotiated by attorneys who filed a class-action lawsuit against Foodmaker for victims of the poisonings. In January, an outbreak of E. coli-related food poisonings linked to undercooked hamburgers served at Jack in the Box restaurants in Washington state and Nevada killed two children and resulted in more than 600 illnesses. At least 93% of the Washington cases and all of the Nevada cases were linked by officials to Jack in the Box.
