Agoura Softball Coach Charged With Theft

AGOURA — Anthony Dryer, Agoura High’s softball coach, has been charged with felony grand theft and misdemeanor petty theft for allegedly misusing funds he collected from parents for the purpose of forming a girls’ 14-and-under summer softball team.
Dryer, 36, was charged Thursday by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office after a monthlong investigation. No arraignment date has been set, according to Deputy District Atty. Michael A. Wilson, head of the Malibu office.
Dryer was placed on administrative leave by the Las Virgenes Unified School District pending results of the investigation, according to John Crow, athletic director at Agoura.
Crow said the incident could jeopardize Dryer’s job. Dryer, a walk-on, is employed seasonally as a coach.
“It’s a personnel matter and we can’t discuss it,” Crow said. “Regardless of what happens, we have a softball program we have to run.”
Dryer could not be reached for comment.
