‘Saint’ Elsewhere

Just wanted to correct a fact misstated in your “Recycling Bin” item in the Nov. 21 Film Clips.
The Saint was first portrayed by Louis Hayward in 1938’s “Saint in New York,” generally considered the best of the Saint series. George Sanders took over the role in 1939 with “The Saint in London.” Hayward returned for the last in the series, the not-so-great “Saint’s Girl Friday,” in 1953.
Despite starring in a host of swashbucklers like “Son of Monte Cristo” and “Fortunes of Captain Blood” and mainstream releases like “And Then There Were None,” Hayward remains unremembered and unappreciated.
