Goaltender Dominik Hasek of the Buffalo Sabres continued his hot play Thursday night, stopping 25 shots in a 5-0 victory over the slumping Montreal Canadiens at Buffalo.
“I can’t remember having a better streak than this,” said Hasek, who tied a club record with his fifth shutout of the season.
It was the sixth loss in seven games for the defending Stanley Cup champions.
“Some of the players on this team are just a bunch of fat cats,” Coach Jacques Demars said. “They think that winning the Stanley Cup is the end of a career. Well it’s not and we’re going to do something about it.”
The Canadiens gave up 43 shots.
“We were ideal tonight,” Sabre Coach John Muckler said. “If we can play like this every night, we’ll be awesome.”
