The Sands of Time: Want proof that Southern California’s beach lifestyle industry is maturing?
Consider the decidedly long-haired skateboard apparel manufacturer who attended the Action Sports Retailer trade show held last weekend in San Diego but skipped a late-night, pre-show bash. “I don’t do that stuff anymore,” the man explained to friends. “I’ve got a wife and a kid now. Similarly, Tony Cherbak, a retail trade expert in the Costa Mesa office of the accounting firm Deloitte & Touche, stayed home to take his child to a martial arts class.
Ron Jones, a board member of the Action Sports Retailers in Laguna Beach, was absent too. Jones, owner of B’Jammin’, a retail chain based in Winter Park, Colo., stayed home because he and his wife are expecting a baby soon.
