PREP GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : Carson Gets Easy Victory Over Belmont

Carson, which struggled the last two weeks off the regular season, regrouped Friday night with a 59-25 victory over Belmont in a City Division 4-A quarterfinal game at Belmont.
Diane Bell scored 14 points and Natasha Hanna added 15 rebounds as second-seeded Carson (22-4) advanced to the semifinals against Crenshaw.
Belmont finished 12-4.

Wilmington Banning 55, Garfield 26--Banning got off to a quick start and led, 45-15, at halftime in a 3-A quarterfinal at Garfield. Miriam Gonzalez led Garfield (11-11) with eight points and 13 rebounds. Four players scored in double figures for Banning (14-10).

Roosevelt 71, Venice 58--Tyson Hunt scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Roughriders (18-2) in a 4-A quarterfinal game at home. Venice was led by Yuriko Jung with 26 points. Roosevelt outscored Venice, 23-10, in the third quarter.

Jefferson 53, Hamilton 43--Kyetra Brown scored 16 points and Chaka Smith added 14 to lead Jefferson (19-7) in City 3-A quarterfinal game at Hamilton. Hamilton led, 14-13, after the first quarter, but Jefferson regrouped in the second quarter to take a 29-22 halftime lead.

Woodland Hills Taft 49, Sylmar 37--Junior center Rachel Martinez came off the bench to lead Taft (9-2) with 15 points and 11 rebounds in 3-A quarterfinal at Taft. Nadra Manley led the Spartans (19-3) with 18 points.
