Coach: Jerry Whitaker (16th year).
1993: Southern Section Division II runner-up, Century League champion.
Key returners: Mike Bain, Sr., PV; Tony Garcia, Sr., 110 HH; Chris Hoke, Sr., SP; Donald Oliver, Sr., 100, 200, 300 IH, LJ; Ethan Taub, Sr., 400, 800.
Key newcomers: Mike Boyes, So., 400; Danny Foote, Jr., 110 HH, 400; John Pieterse, Jr., 100, 200.
Outlook: The Knights will try to make Whitaker’s final season a memorable one, with the veteran coach retiring after a tour of duty that began at the school in 1969. Taub, one of the state’s finest 400-meter runners, will also take on the 800 this season. Whitaker said Taub is ahead of Tad Heath, who ran a 1:53.54 at 800 meters a year ago, at this point of the season. Bain was a section finalist in the pole vault with a best of 14-6, and Garcia was a Times Orange County first-team selection in the 110-meter high hurdles last year. Oliver is an all-around talent who will help the Knights in the relays, hurdles and jumps.
