Man Shot Dead in Robbery, Van Theft

SANTA ANA — A man was killed Monday night in a robbery and automobile theft, police said.
The victim, who was not identified, was shot just after 7 p.m. in the 4400 block of West 1st Street, near the intersection with Newhope Street, according to Sgt. Anthony J. Levatino.
At the time of the shooting, the man was in a 1993 blue and white Chevrolet Astrovan with a racing stripe. His companion was not harmed. The victim was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the assailants, who are believed to have used a pistol, left the scene in the van, and were last seen heading southbound on Harbor Boulevard near McFadden Avenue. The van’s license plate is 3EBM943. No other details of the incident were available.
