OUTLOOK
La Quinta lost four of five infield starters from last year’s Southern Section Division III finalists, but Demarest returns five starters, including Jim Livernois (The Times Orange County player of the year, 13-3, 2.10 ERA) and C.J. Livernois, who started at second. Demarest welcomes Kuzmic, a Los Amigos transfer, who will start at short. The biggest loss is Granger, the starting catcher for four years. Linck (.303), a DH last year, will replace him. Fox, who played junior varsity last season, will start at third and Carlson (.326) moves from left to first. With Livernois and Combs (5-2, 3.08 ERA) back, the pitching should be strong. “Our pitching is deeper than last year and hopefully that will make things easier on Jimmy,” Demarest said. “He’s going to pitch quality innings. Hopefully, we’re not going to be a one-dimensional team.” Livernois (.375, 13 SB) might also catch a few innings.
