MISSION HILLS — Samantha Rigley, Carly Funicello and Kelly McKay, who helped Alemany High reach the Southern Section Division II-A girls’ championship game, have been named to the Cal-Hi Sports all-state basketball team.
Alemany is one of the top girls’ teams in California, so the talented trio could be piling up awards for another year or two.
Rigley, a 5-foot-10 guard, was named the girls’ state junior player of the year. McKay, a 5-10 forward, was named to the all-underclass junior team and Funicello (6-3) was named to the all-underclass sophomore team.
Rigley and Funicello also were selected to the All-Division II team, which is based on enrollment. Mikko Giordano of Buena, a 6-foot senior forward, was named to the All-Division I team.
Ventura’s 5-7 junior guard Ember Brown and 6-1 sophomore center Nicole Greathouse of Buena also were named to their all-underclass teams.
Four boys’ players from the region were selected to all-underclass teams, led by twins Jason (6-8) and Jarron Collins (6-7), a pair of highly regarded front-court players from Harvard-Westlake. Guards Brock Jacobsen (6-4) of Crescenta Valley and Arthur Lee (6-0) of North Hollywood made the all-underclass junior team.
Senior center Alex Lopez (6-10) of Campbell Hall was named to the All-Division V team and Damian Cantrell (6-4) of Santa Clara made All-Division IV.
Kris Johnson (6-5) of Crenshaw, who played for two seasons at Montclair Prep, made the all-state third team.
