A Softball All-American, Jones Considers Basketball

Shannon Jones has completed her senior softball season for Cal State Northridge, but her college athletic career might not be over.
Jones, an All-American third baseman, said Friday that she is considering trying out for the Northridge basketball team. She would have one season of NCAA Division I eligibility.
Jones, who is 5-foot-10, last played competitive basketball at Mira Loma High in Sacramento, where she was an All-City forward.
At Northridge, she played on a championship intramural basketball team along with two other Northridge softball players.
A business major who is roughly a year short of earning her degree, Jones will consider all options before making a decision.
“Playing basketball would make it tougher on me academically, but I would also like to enjoy my final year athletically,” Jones said.
