BRIEFLY : Fire Safety: Board Urges Ban on Wood-Shingle Roofs
- Share via
The Los Angeles County Wildfire Safety Panel has released a report calling for a ban on wood-shake and shingle roofs in all “high-risk fire and buffer zone” areas in the county.
The advisory committee, formed by the county Board of Supervisors, included representatives of the U.S. Forest Service, Department of Public Works and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The panel also made a series of recommendations for fire-prone areas affected by last fall’s canyon fires, such as Topanga and Malibu. Among them: boosting the capacity and reach of rural water systems and re-evaluating emergency access routes.
