USTA WOMEN’S SENIOR HARDCOURT : Laguna Beach’s Clark Captures Singles Title

NEWPORT BEACH — Laguna Beach’s Doris Clark swept Piedmont’s June Gay, 6-2, 6-2, to capture the championship of the U.S. Tennis Assn. National Women’s Hardcourt senior tennis tournament Saturday at the Newport Beach Tennis Club.
Clark, the top-seeded in the 65-year-old division, advanced to the final by beating Elaine Mason of Fresno, 7-5, 6-1, on Friday.
Laguna Hills’ Charlotte Decker and Los Angeles’ Alice Beckenbach fell to Dodo Cheney of Santa Monica and Pat Stuhler of Brielle, N.J., 6-1, 6-1, in the 75s doubles final.
Cheney, the top-seeded in the 75s singles, swept Stuhler, 6-1, 6-3, in the final.
