Children and teen-agers around the San Fernando Valley will attempt to capture the spirits of Halloween on canvas, paper or any other medium they choose for a contest sponsored by ACHIEVEMENT through ART.
The organization works toward funding college scholarships for local art students. Coordinated by Studio City’s DECOR ART Gallery, the founding agency of ACHIEVEMENT through ART, the contest, called “Creative Halloween Art Contest for Students,” will be judged by professionals from the entertainment industry. Judges will include a scenic design artist from the “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” art department and directors of a student internship program at Film Roman, a North Hollywood-based production company for children’s television programs.
Entries will be divided into three categories: grades one through six, seven through nine, and 10 through 12. Winners from each category will receive cash prizes and gifts for their efforts, with $75 for first-place winners, $50 for second place and $25 for third.
Winning entries will be framed by DECOR ART Gallery.
To enter, students must submit their work to the gallery at 12149 Ventura Blvd., Studio City. Entries must be received by Oct. 27. There is no entry fee.
Winners will be announced Oct. 30 at a free exhibition and party at the art gallery from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m..
For entry specifications and additional information, call (818) 755-0755.
