Denny’s Accused of Union Busting: The National Labor Relations Board charged that two restaurants in New Jersey fired overnight employees because they tried to unionize workers. Debbie Atkinson, a spokeswoman for Flagstar Cos., Denny’s parent, said the employees weren’t fired but were laid off when the two restaurants stopped serving food at night. But New Jersey’s Local 54 of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International union filed complaints with the NLRB on July 21, saying Denny’s graveyard-shift employees in Mt. Laurel and Marlton were fired. The NLRB has not set a date for a hearing.
