MOGADISHU, Somalia — Clans loyal to Mogadishu’s rival warlords fought fierce street battles Tuesday, killing at least eight people and wounding more than 100. Most of the victims were civilians caught in cross-fire.
The fighting broke out late Monday, ending a week of relative calm with a barrage of mortars, grenades, heavy machine guns and small-arms fire.
Hospital officials said supplies were running out and appeals to aid agencies had gone unanswered.
