In a surprise move, Councilman Bob Patchin, who completes his first term in office this year, announced Tuesday night he will not seek reelection.
Patchin, 68, who served as mayor last year, made his announcement at the end of the City Council meeting.
“In a few months I will be 69 years old, and it is time that I got back to my retirement,” Patchin said.
In his announcement, televised on local cable television, Patchin urged potential City Council candidates to start doing their homework for the November election.
“Everyone who wants to run for this council should be coming to these meetings every month to get the real flavor of what is going on,” he said.
