Collins Leaves Genesis: Musician Phil Collins, perhaps already better known for his solo anthems than for his work with the rock group Genesis, announced Thursday that he was leaving the group to concentrate on “music for movies, some jazz projects and, of course, my solo career.” Collins, a drummer, took over Genesis’ lead vocal duties when Peter Gabriel departed in 1975. Meanwhile, the remaining Genesis members have begun work on the band’s 20th album and plan to audition vocalists in the near future. They have not yet decided how to fill Collins’ drumming duties.
