Upland was a surprise winner at the Irvine Woodbridge tournament Monday. The Highlanders, ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division III poll, defeated Huntington Beach (No. 6 in Division I), 3-0, Saugus (No. 4 in Division II), 3-2, and La Mirada (No. 2 in Division II), 2-1, in the championship game. Senior pitcher Sarah Farnworth, who was the tournament’s most valuable player, gave up two earned runs in 33 innings and struck out 35. She also hit a two-run homer in the victory over La Mirada. Farnworth is 15-4 this season with an ERA of 0.70. She has 146 strikeouts in 130 innings. . . . Crescenta Valley senior pitcher Danielle Ferreira is 13-5 with a 0.61 ERA, including two no-hitters and seven one-hitters. Crescenta Valley third baseman Hope Robertshaw leads the San Fernando Valley with a .509 batting average and has scored 19 runs. . . . West Covina freshman Tracy Tallerino is averaging 11 strikeouts per game and is 9-1 with a 0.32 ERA. . . . Senior Danielle Cassara of Long Beach Millikan is 12-3 with a microscopic 0.13 ERA. Cassara, averaging seven strikeouts, extended her scoreless-inning streak to 28 with a 2-0 victory over Lakewood on Tuesday and is batting .413 with 11 RBIs.
