Penwarden Wins Rematch, 7-5

Two weeks later, Jarrod Penwarden was up to the task.
Penwarden, normally a shortstop, got the start on the mound and helped Granada Hills High defeat San Fernando, 7-5, in a Northwest Valley Conference baseball game Wednesday at San Fernando.
In the Birmingham tournament two weeks ago, Penwarden started his first game, in the Blue Division final, won by San Fernando, 6-5.
In the rematch, Penwarden gave up four hits in five innings and hit a triple. Mike Erwin and Jay Carpenter each had three hits, and Carlos Rodriguez added two hits and two runs batted in for Granada Hills (11-11, 5-7 in conference play).
Chris Montano had two hits and a two-run double for San Fernando (13-9, 4-8).
Chatsworth 19, Taft 0--Junior right-hander Greg Wold (6-1) allowed two hits in six innings, striking out six for the Chancellors (16-5, 7-5) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at home.
Wold also had three hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Dave Sark had two hits, including a double, and drove in five runs for Chatsworth.
El Camino Real 3, Birmingham 1--Shaun Fishman struck out eight and Ben Cliffords added a home run for the Conquistadores (13-9, 6-6) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Arcadia 2, Crescenta Valley 1--Jason Cly pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and drove in the winning run on a sacrifice fly for the Apaches (14-5, 8-2) in a Pacific League game.
Gary Godbold had two hits for the Falcons (10-9, 5-5) and drove in their only run.
Camarillo 21, Agoura 0--Nathan Kaup had three doubles and drove in three runs, and Andy Kroneberger added a three-run home run and a double for the Scorpions in a Marmonte League game at Camarillo.
Rodell Desamparo added four hits for Camarillo (17-2, 8-1).
Crespi 10, Harvard-Westlake 0--Mike Turner had two hits--including a two-run home run--and drove in four runs for the host Celts (15-6, 4-3) in a Mission League game at Valley College.
Jon Cuccias (5-3) allowed two hits, struck out nine and walked none in five innings.
GIRLS’ SOFTBALL
Louisville 13, Flintridge Sacred Heart 3--Liz Hudson had four hits, including two triples and a double, for the Royals (7-5, 3-0) in a Mission League game at Flintridge Sacred Heart.
Chaminade 2, Harvard-Westlake 0--Maureen LeCocq struck out 10 for the Eagles (9-10, 3-2) in a Mission League game at Chaminade.
HIGH SCHOOL GOLF
Hart 316, Newbury Park 371--Brandon Wallace shot a one-under-par 60 and Jason Semelsberger shot a 61 for the Indians (15-1) at Vista Valencia golf course in a nonleague match.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Granada Hills 5, Taft 2--The Highlanders (12-1, 9-1) captured the Northwest Valley Conference title by defeating the defending champions. James White and Jason Weisserod, at No. 1 doubles, and Deepu Murthy and Andy Kim, at No. 3 doubles, won three-set matches to clinch the victory. Matt Weiss and Steve Ishoo also won at No. 2 doubles. All three doubles teams finished the regular season 13-0.
Rio Mesa 10, Ventura 8--Bob Bryan, a member of the U.S. Junior National team, swept three singles matches by scores of 6-0 for the Spartans (14-3, 10-3) in a Channel League match at Ventura. Bryan’s twin brother Mike missed the match because of tendinitis in his knee.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Viewpoint d. Imperial, 15-7, 15-7, 13-15, 15-9--J.R. Sichel recorded 14 kills and Mike Williams added 13 kills for Viewpoint (13-2, 10-1) in a Westside League match at Imperial.
WOMEN’S SOFTBALL
Pierce 14, Valley 2--Kelly Lovato pitched a four-hitter, homered and drove in four runs for the Brahmas (27-7-1, 12-2) in a Western State Conference game at Valley. Kady Kepner had three hits for Valley.
