An expedition to raise the wreck of the Confederate submarine Hunley is set to begin amid high security as archeologists try to see if it can be recovered intact. The Hunley, which carried a crew of nine, was the first submarine to sink another warship, the Union frigate Housatonic, in February 1864. The 40-foot sub, cranked by hand and lighted by candles, never returned. Last May, a dive team funded by bestselling author Clive Cussler said it had found the sub about four miles off Charleston Harbor.
