Barons Win Coin Flip for No. 1 Sunset Spot

Fountain Valley’s softball team, which tied with Huntington Beach in the Sunset League, won a coin flip Friday to determine the league’s first-place entry into the Southern Section playoffs.

Laguna Beach and University softball teams, which tied for third place in the Pacific Coast League, will play at 5 p.m. today at Aliso Niguel High for the league’s final automatic playoff berth.

Ohio State’s Candace Kollen, formerly of Mater Dei, was named to the first-team all-Big Ten softball team. Kollen, a sophomore second baseman, hit .311 and led Ohio State with 33 runs scored and 18 stolen bases.
