Calvary Chapel Beats Ocean View in Three

Jason Mandall had 19 kills and Josh Lewis added 12 as host Calvary Chapel beat Ocean View in three games Friday in a Division II boys’ volleyball first-round match.
The third-seeded Eagles, who won, 15-10, 15-7, 15-8, will play Garden Grove in the second round. Calvary Chapel is 13-2.
In other Division II matches:
Garden Grove 3, El Modena 0--Ryan Clarkson had 13 kills and Matt Adling added 10 for Garden Grove (10-7), which won its first-round match, 15-10, 15-7, 15-7. David Kitashima had 13 kills for El Modena (6-8).
Tustin 3, Hemet West Valley 0--Matt Kraus had 16 kills as Tustin (12-5) advanced to the second round with a 15-6, 15-13, 15-11 victory. Bobby Dewald had six blocks for the Tillers.
Valencia 3, Servite 1--Kevin Allen had 22 kills for host Valencia (16-3), which won, 15-13, 16-18, 16-14, 17-15. D.J. Smith had 16 kills and 11 blocks and Asher Schuler added 13 kills and 10 blocks for the Tigers, who advanced to play Foothill.
Foothill 3, Bolsa Grande 0--Ryan Ellis had 11 kills for host Foothill (14-1), which won, 15-3, 15-3, 15-1.
Whittier Christian 3, Santa Fe 0--Kyle Hedwell had 17 kills and Steve Willey had 12 kills in Whittier Christian’s 15-5, 15-10, 15-10. Whittier Christian is 13-4.
Western 3, Brethren Christian 1--Vince Branstetter had 19 kills and Naichez Belmont added 16 for Western (15-2), which won, 15-8, 15-12, 9-15, 15-9.
La Quinta 3, Villa Park 2--Scott Ogilvie had 30 kills for host La Quinta (15-2), which won, 6-15, 15-8, 13-15, 15-11, 17-15.
