Bishop Amat Has a Singles Party in Defeating Loyola

Sophomore right-hander Paul Mangini gave up five hits in six-plus innings and La Puente Bishop Amat survived a late Loyola rally to move into its second consecutive Southern Section Division I final with a 7-4 victory Tuesday at Blair Field.
The Lancers had eight hits off Loyola starter Chris Quiroz (7-4) and took advantage of three errors to score five runs in the first three innings. Bishop Amat (23-6) finished with 13 hits--all singles. Shortstop Dennis Wyrick led the way with three hits and two runs batted in.
South Gate 5, Fremont 4--Mike Martinez hit a one-run single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie and send the Rams (25-7) back to the City Section Division 3-A title game for the second year in a row.
Granada Hills Kennedy 7, Woodland Hills El Camino Real 0--Junior right-hander Jon Garland (11-1) gave up one hit and struck out 12 as Kennedy advanced to the City Section Division 4-A final for the second year in a row with a victory at Birmingham High.
Anaheim Canyon 9, Tustin 1--Brandon Smith had seven RBIs, including a grand-slam home run, as Canyon (26-3) took charge in the fifth inning of a Southern Section Division II game at Villa Park High.
The grand slam was Smith’s second and increased his season RBI total to 39.
Covina Charter Oak 4, Corona 1--John Padilla hit a three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead Charter Oak (21-8) in a Southern Section Division III game at Northview High.
Fontana A.B. Miller 5, Cerritos 2--Jesse Jorrin had two doubles and two runs and Brandon Martin pitched five strong innings to lead A.B. Miller (22-7) in a Southern Section Division IV game at Rialto High.
