Moorpark High advanced to the Southern Section Division V title game Tuesday with a 1-0 softball victory over Riverside Notre Dame at Riverside Community College.
Jennifer Jaegge’s drive to left-center field with two out and two strikes in the top of the seventh inning drove in Meaghan Finnerty with the winning run. Finnerty reached base on a walk, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball.
The Musketeers (19-8) play Crossroads (21-9) in Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. championship game at Mayfair Park in Lakewood.
Jaegge professed to be calm during her crucial at-bat, although it was delayed about 10 minutes after Finnerty collided with and injured the Titans’ shortstop while stealing second.
“I twiddled my thumbs and relaxed and got a pep talk from [teammate] Tracey [Milburn],” Jaegge said.
Moorpark sophomore Erin Heinbechner (17-4) pitched a one-hitter, striking out 10 and walking one while earning her 10th shutout.
