Meeting to Focus on Wilacre Park Issues

Parking, unleashed dogs, trail access and other concerns related to Wilacre Park will be the focus of a Neighborhood Council meeting Wednesday in Studio City.
The session will be hosted by City Councilman Mike Feuer at Carpenter Avenue School, 3909 Carpenter Ave., from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Also on hand will be staff from the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, which maintains Wilacre Park. The park extends west from Laurel Canyon Boulevard just north of Fryman Road almost to Coldwater Canyon Avenue.
Neighbors, particularly residents on Fryman Road and Iradell Lane, are urging a daytime parking ban on both streets, which lead to the entrance of the Betty B. Dearing Trail in the park. Residents say their lives are disrupted by late-night partying, lack of parking for visitors and trespassing on their property. Visitors to the park are concerned about a recent announcement that the conservancy will enforce the local leash law.
Suggestions have included building off-site parking and stationing a ranger at the site.
“As the area has gotten more popular, it has become an issue,” said Howard Gantman, Feuer’s assistant chief of staff. “This will be the first wide-scale meeting to get people together. We are especially hoping to be able to find a parking solution.”
