Getty Acquisition

A clarification is in order regarding the acquisition by the Getty Museum of Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities which were “amassed” by the Fleischmans of New York (editorial, June 16).
This is legally called receiving stolen property, which is illegal in every country in the world and is punishable by law. Neither Italian nor Greek law permits the exportation of their antiquities, which are considered national treasures.
These items were simply stolen from these countries and should be returned to them.
