Everyone Has Ideas on How to Help Angels
Listen up, Angel management: Two moves can still jump the team into the ’96 playoffs and beyond.
(1) Move Tim Salmon, clearly a fine athlete, into the obvious hole at third base, leaving an outfield spot for Darin Erstad. Do not trade Garret Anderson.
(2) Trade Chili Davis, still a great hitter but aging, for a strong pitcher. Yes, we’ll miss Chili some, but trading Anderson or Erstad for a pitcher will backfire big time.

It’s time to put our fond memories of Jim Abbott aside and realize that he is no longer an asset to the Angels. A struggling team can’t afford the luxury of helping Jim through this difficult time. If Marcel Lachemann feels the need to stick with him, then he can follow him to the minor leagues. Let’s not forget the other 24 players or that the season is only half over.
