Two youngsters were hospitalized in critical condition Saturday night following separate near-drownings, officials said.
A 2-year-old girl was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo after she was found unconscious about 6 p.m. in the family swimming pool on Via Sebastian in Laguna Niguel.
The girl’s mother pulled her out and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, said Capt. Scott Brown, spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority. Brown said the same girl nearly drowned in a swimming pool last year.
About 8 p.m., a 3 1/2-year-old boy nearly drowned in a bathtub of his Lake Forest home after his father left him to answer the telephone. The boy was left alone in the tub for one to two minutes, Brown said. The boy, who wasn’t breathing when paramedics arrived at the home on Woodwalk Road, was taken to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills.
