Beckman Sales, Income Up in 3rd Quarter

FULLERTON — Beckman Instruments Inc. posted higher net income and sales for the third quarter.
The Fullerton manufacturer of systems and supplies for biological analysis reported that net income totaled $18.7 million, or 65 cents a share, up from of $13.9 million, or 48 cents a share, a year ago. The 1995 results included a restructuring charge of $4.1 million. Sales grew 10%, to $252.8 million from $229.9 million.
For the first nine months, net income rose to $51.4 million, or $1.77 a share, from year-earlier net income of $38 million, or $1.32 a share, which included a $10.6-million restructuring charge. Sales advanced 12%, to $742.8 million from $665.5 million.
