Titans Win in Women’s Volleyball

Cal State Fullerton used double-digit kills by four players to beat New Mexico State, 15-4, 15-6, 6-15, 15-2, in a Big West Conference women’s volleyball match Friday.
Heather Bassett had a game-high 17 kills for the Titans (13-9, 3-6) and teammate Shelley Smith added 13. Crystal Moore had 15 kills to lead New Mexico State.
The Titans, who stopped a two-game losing streak, will play North Texas tonight.
In another conference match:
Long Beach State 3, Nevada 0--Jen Snyder recorded 14 kills for the fourth-ranked 49ers (22-0, 9-0), who won, 15-6, 15-4, 15-5. Paige Spaulding of San Clemente had five kills for Nevada (13-9, 5-4). Long Beach State’s Misty May added nine kills and 33 assists. The 49ers host Utah State (5-20, 1-8) tonight.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Stanford 2, UC Irvine 1--Stanford scored twice in the second half to win. Don Icardo scored for the Anteaters (6-6-2) in the 79th minute. Steve Kirschbaum and A.J. Sauer scored for the Cardinal.
In nonconference water polo:
Long Beach State 12, Air Force 9--Jeff Colyer and Joey Gendron each scored three points in an upset victory for 11th-ranked Long Beach State (6-11). Brian Pendergast scored three goals for eighth-ranked Air Force.
The victory ended the 49ers’ three-game losing streak.
Goalie Adam Carter had 12 saves for Long Beach State.
