Sanchez, from Capistrano Valley High, saved his best race for last. Early in the year, he finished 11th in the Orange Empire Conference preview run. But when it mattered most at the conference final Saturday, Sanchez ran his best race of the year. He dominated the final mile of the four-mile race to win in 20:59 on the Newport Back Bay course. Sanchez’s time was about a minute faster then he ran in the preview run.
